Get MTD-ready once. Then run it yourself.

A fixed-fee setup for sole traders and landlords. The right software, proper training, and your first two live submissions handled with you, so you're never signing up to a monthly subscription just to file your own tax.

The problem

MTD is a filing change, not a reason to hand over your accounts forever.

From April 2026, sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 must keep digital records and file quarterly. The £30,000 band follows in April 2027, and £20,000 in April 2028. Plenty of software firms will “set you up free”, because the setup is the hook and the monthly subscription is the point. This is the honest alternative: pay once, learn how it works, and keep control of it yourself.

What you get

Everything you need to be running MTD confidently, and nothing you don't.

The right software, chosen for you

Not whatever pays the biggest referral fee. Software matched to how you actually keep records, including bridging software if you'd rather stay in a spreadsheet.

Full setup, done for you

Accounts connected, digital records started correctly from day one, and everything configured so your quarterly updates will actually work.

A proper training walkthrough

A real session where you learn to do it yourself, recording income and expenses and submitting an update, not a PDF and good luck.

Your first two submissions, together

I'm alongside you for the first two live quarterly updates. By the third, you've done it twice and you're comfortable on your own.

Plain-English notes you keep

A short written reference for your exact setup, so six months later you're not relying on memory or a support queue.

Set up by a Chartered Accountant

The decisions behind the setup — bases, categories, what counts — are made by someone who understands the tax, not a sales team.

Why one-off beats monthly

The maths on “free setup”.

A bundled MTD package typically runs £30–£120 a month. Even at the cheap end, that's £720–£1,440 over two years, and every year after that too. A one-off setup costs you once and then stops.

This setup

£500 + VAT

Paid once. You own your software and your process. No tie-in.

Typical monthly package

£720–£2,880

Over two years, at £30–£120/month, and it keeps running.

The honest part

What this covers, and where a once-a-year check still makes sense.

This service makes you self-sufficient on the mechanical process: keeping digital records and getting your four quarterly updates in. That part is genuinely straightforward once it's set up properly, and it's most of the year's work.

The final declaration at year end is different. That's where reliefs, adjustments and other income come in, and where getting the tax right, not just the filing, actually matters. I won't pretend a training session makes anyone their own tax adviser on that.

Optional year-end review

If you'd like a set of trained eyes on the final declaration before it's submitted, that's available as a separate once-a-year piece, priced per situation. Not an accountant on retainer. Just a check at the one point it counts.

How it works

Four steps, and you're running it yourself.

1

A quick call to scope it

Fifteen minutes to understand your income sources and how you currently keep records. That decides the right software.

2

I set everything up

Software configured, accounts connected, digital records started correctly. You don't touch a thing yet.

3

We do the training together

A working session where you learn the day-to-day and submit a real update, with me there.

4

Two live submissions, then you're set

I'm alongside you for the first two quarterly updates. After that, it's yours.

Who this suits

Built for people who want to stay in control of their own filing.

A good fit if

  • You're a sole trader or landlord coming into MTD in 2026, 2027 or 2028
  • Your records are reasonably simple and you're happy to do the quarterly updates yourself
  • You'd rather pay once and be independent than sign up to another monthly bill
  • You want it set up by someone who understands the tax, not just the software

Maybe not, if

  • You'd genuinely rather someone else did the whole thing for you every quarter — that's a different service
  • Your affairs are complex enough that year-round advice is the real need
  • You're below the threshold and not planning to join voluntarily
Local to you

Serving sole traders and landlords across Matlock, Bakewell, Wirksworth, Darley Dale, Cromford, Tansley and Chesterfield, in person or remotely.

Common questions

Answers before you commit.

Do I actually have to do this?

If your qualifying income from self-employment and property is over £50,000 you're already mandated from April 2026; over £30,000 from April 2027; over £20,000 from April 2028. The threshold is on gross income before expenses, and it combines trade and rental income. If you're below £20,000 you're not currently in scope.

Which software will you set me up on?

Whichever genuinely fits how you work — the decision is made at the scoping call, not sold to you in advance. If you prefer to keep using a spreadsheet, bridging software can make that MTD-compliant rather than forcing you onto a new system.

What happens after the two submissions?

You run it. You'll have done two live quarterly updates with me and have written notes for your setup. If you'd like a review at year end for the final declaration, that's available separately, but there's no obligation and no ongoing fee.

Is there really no monthly cost to you?

Not to me. You'll pay the software's own licence directly (typically £10–£35/month, and some options are free), but that's your subscription, in your name, that you can change or cancel. You're not tied to me for it.

What if I decide I want you to keep doing it?

That's fine, and some people do — but it's a genuine choice made afterwards, not the point of the setup. The service is designed to leave you able to walk away.
