I'm Tim Whitehouse, a chartered accountant based in Matlock, working with businesses in Sheffield, Chesterfield and across Derbyshire. I provide virtual finance director (FD) support, acting as your part-time FD to help with financial planning and business decisions.
I also take on day-to-day finance work, specific projects, and the core accounts and tax returns. You can work with me on an ongoing basis or for a defined piece of work.

Over 20 years’ experience in accountancy and business finance.
I started my accountancy career in 2005 and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2008. I trained at EY, where my work included audit, financial due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, stock market listings (IPOs), and process improvement. Due diligence involves examining a business's finances to inform a proposed purchase or sale.
I went on to build and sell an accounting practice with more than 300 clients. Alongside the usual UK small business accounts and tax work, I prepared management accounts and ran outsourced finance functions, including bank account management, payment runs and regular reporting.
I have also managed teams, set up accounting software and migrated businesses between systems. That experience allows me to help with both financial decisions and the practical work needed to put them into effect.
Virtual Finance Director

As your virtual FD, I work with you regularly to understand performance, plan ahead and assess business decisions. We agree the time and responsibilities to suit your business, working alongside your existing accountant or finance team where needed.
This is also known as a fractional finance director service: senior finance support for an agreed amount of time each month. Meetings can be in person or online, depending on how you prefer to work.

We start with what you need, your current arrangements and any deadlines. I then set out the work, responsibilities and fees before we begin. This can be a regular commitment, temporary support or a one-off project.
Local, remote or a combination.
