MTD for Income Tax is coming — get set up properly first
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax changes how many sole traders and landlords keep records and report to HMRC. Instead of one annual return, you'll keep digital records and send quarterly updates through compatible software.
It is being phased in by income level, and the simplest way through it is to be set up correctly before your start date — the right software, a clean bookkeeping routine, and someone local who has done it before. Leave it to the last minute and it becomes a scramble; sort it early and it is barely a change at all.
